Rainsville, Alabama, the Crossroads of Sand Mountain. This statement describes Rainsville by its location. But it also seems to say a lot about life. So much of life is lived at the crossroads. Decision making seems to start earlier now than ever before. Even small children have to make so many decisions today. Teenagers wrestle with issues of who they are, who they will date, what events to be a part of, and which not. Seniors in high school grapple with the issues of what college to attend and what career will be pursued. Settling issues of high school does not bring an end to the challenges of life.
Young adults find themselves at the crossroads of life. Whether to marry or not, having children, where to settle the family, the buying of a home, etc…. All of these issues cause us to stand at the crossroads of life. And the older we become, often the greater the challenge.
As you stand at the crossroads of life, God has a plan for you. Scripture tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer 29:11 NIV) We at Broadway Baptist Church are committed to “Finding Strength in God’s Word For the Challenges of Today.” As you find yourself at life’s crossroads, we want to be of help to you. Our desire is to walk with you in the discovery of God’s hope, plan and future for your life.

Brother Richard Williams - Youth Minister
As you read through God’s word, who do you find that God charged with the responsibility of the spiritual formation of children and teenagers? In other words, “To whom did God assign this important job?” When you ask this question to a group of Christ-followers, the response is always the same. Without fail, those who follow Christ answer: “Parents.” But in most church contexts, parents have handed over their biblically assigned task as primary disciplers to the church staff. Other parents have made a case to abolish student ministry, remove teens from student activities, and try to disciple their children while excluding the church. Neither is biblical. Neither is ideal. The two must step closer to one another to be based on a biblical model. Teens need family and church working hand-in-hand surrounding them with truth and godly models to follow.
At Broadway Baptist Church, our goal is to move these two institutions closer together and begin to implement a more strategic biblical framework for youth ministry. Youth ministry must co-champion the family and the church. This is God’s intention for developing children and teenagers into fully devoted followers of Christ, and we are striving to fulfill this purpose.
